On Thursday, May 24, 2001 the US Navy Memorial in
Washington DC was the location of a rather special event. This was the USS Washington BB56 Plaque Dedication Ceremony.
The Commemorative Plaque provides the USS Washington BB56 shipmates with a permanent memorial that will be displayed publicly and viewed by thousands of visitors, including veterans, families and friends, tourists and school children for many years to come.
The USS Washington BB56 Commemorative Plaque is located to the left as you exit the U.S. Naval Heritage Theater.
Our featured speaker at the ceremony was Naval Historian Paul Stillwell, Director of the US Naval Institute History, Reference & Preservation Department.
