
Mr. Maslanka, 92, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born on January 2, 1918 in Lowell, MA, a son of the late Feliks and Helen Twarog Maslanka.
He attended the local public schools and was a graduate of the Lowell Textile Institute, now the Lowell Branch of the University of Massachusetts. While in college he played varsity football and basketball. He went on to serve proudly in the United States Navy in WWII. He was a member of the U.S.S. Washington BB56 Reunion Group and Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans.
Mr. Maslanka had an illustrious career spanning 35 years with National Starch and Chemical Corporation as a Technical Sales Representative. He was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and the Rhodes-Johnston Bible Class. He had been a member of the Kilwinning Lodge of Masons in Lowell, MA, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Member of the Rhode Island Consistery.
He served as Chairman of the Carolina-Virginia Food Technologists, Past-President of the Senior Scholars and Past Commander of the Charlotte Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars. His memberships included the Senior Forum, the Mecklenburg Historical Association and the League of the South.
Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Springs Maslanka and his son, Douglas Todd Springs Maslanka; nephews, Louis W. Wajda, Walter Louis Wajda and Richard Edward Wajda.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Harry & Bryant Company, 'Chapel in the Oaks,' 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with the Reverend Dr. Deborah Conner officiating.
Interment with Military Honors at Sharon Memorial Park will be private.
